Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov to visit Pakistan from April 6-7
New Delhi: The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Pakistan from April 6 to 7.
Lavrov will hold special meetings with his counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and they will discuss the Afghan peace process, counterterrorism cooperation, and other bilateral issues.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on its official tweeter account said that “The Ministers will discuss bilateral ties, including economic cooperation and counterterrorism #RussiaPakistan,”
Before traveling to Pakistan, Lavrov will visit India on April 5 and 6 and will hold talks with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to prepare the ground for the annual India-Russia summit as well as to discuss bilateral cooperation.
International political experts believe that “This is a rare visit by the Russian Foreign Minister and is taking place in the backdrop of improving ties between Islamabad and Moscow.”
“In the last few years, India’s strategic and diplomatic relations with the European countries and western countries have developed at next level and it could be bad for Russia, so Foreign Minister of Russia’s visit to Pakistan could be the indirect answer to the New Delhi government,” experts in their opinions.
Russia recently hosted a conference of Pakistan, the US, China, and representatives from the Afghan government and the Taliban as part of efforts to facilitate the peace process.
