Football: Rachel Daly retires from England women’s national team
New Delhi, April 11: After eight years as England women’s national team player, Aston Villa striker Rachel Daly, 32, has announced her retirement from international football
In a statement on her Instagram account on Wednesday, she said the time for her to quit international football is now.
“I would love nothing more than to play for England forever, but the time has come for me to hang my boots up on the international stage.” she wrote.
As an England national team player, Rachel earned 84 caps and scored 16 goals. She also won the 2022 euro and reached the 2023 women’s World Cup final.
On Tuesday, Rachel made her last appearance for England during the game against Ireland for the 2025 Euro qualification.
The England coach, Sarina Wiegman, appreciated the good work Rachel Daly did for England. “It’s been a privilege to work with her. I have never worked with a player so versatile, always with a smile on her face and, bringing energy and trying her best for the team.”
