Football: After a Saudi ban, Cristiano Ronaldo regrets ‘immoral’ gesture
New Delhi, Mar 7: Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was suspended on February 27 in Saudi Arabia for one match due to an immoral gesture he made in front of fans, has regretted the act.
Before the match of Al Nasar FC v/s Al AIN FC, Ronaldo told the media he regretted the mistake he made. He admitted he was wrong and promised to change.
“What I did and what I was punished for was a misunderstanding. I respect the country I live in. The reaction is a normal thing in Europe but who doesn’t make mistakes in life? I didn’t do anything wrong intentionally. I always respect the customs and traditions of countries.”
The immoral gesture Ronaldo made in front of fans, violated Article 57-1 of the disciplinary and ethics regulations, which read “Any person who causes public excitement by action, word, or gesture during any match shall be suspended for one match and punished with a fine of 10,000 riyals.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo is now playing his second season in Saudi Pro League, which he joined last year. So far, he has scored 37 goals in 37 appearances for Al Nasar FC. In two seasons, he has scored 48 goals in 56 matches for the Saudi club.
