Education: Delhi’s AAP govt introduces Deshbhakti curriculum in schools
New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Admi Party (AAP) government in Delhi on Tuesday introduced the Deshbhakti curriculum in New Delhi’s public schools to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, and instill a sense of patriotism among all school students, from classes nursery to 12.
Under the curriculum, patriotic studies will be allotted a period daily for Nursery to Grade 8 students, and two classes per week for Grades 9 to 12.
Approved by the Governing Council of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on August 6, 2021, the curriculum will highlight stories on the Independence Movement. Students will be trained to realize responsibilities, duties, and their contribution to the nation’s progress.
No exams will be conducted in these subject as it is activity-based.
“The Deshbhakti curriculum framework aims to develop a deep sense of respect towards constitutional values and seeks to bridge the gap between values and action. Since there is little scope for relating values of equality and fraternity to daily lives, the curriculum will seek to build a deeper understanding of these values and make them part of children’s behavior,” said an official report.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the students will be prepared to fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the nation’s progress. They will also be prepared in a way that if the need arises, they can lay down their lives for the nation and be willing to give their all to the country.
