Earthquake: Tremblors Jolt J&K, Noida, and Uttarakhand
New Delhi: An earthquake with a magnitude intensity of 5.7 on the Richter Scale occurred near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region on Saturday, February 05, 2022. The tremors were felt as far as Jammu and Kashmir, Noida, and other adjoining areas.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) shared a seismograph on Twitter and wrote, “Earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred on February 05, 2022, at 09:45 am IST on latitude 36.340, longitude 71.05 with a depth of 181 km and located at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to inquire about the earthquake situation in the Union Territory.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the eyewitnesses reported jolts in Pakistan at 09:18 am local time. “The shaking is often due to an earthquake -but occasionally it may have another cause such as a sonic boom,” EMSC tweeted.
North India witnessed an earthquake in Uttarakhand during the early hours of Saturday. People were sound asleep when the tremblor struck the Uttarkashi region around 03:00 am on February 05, 2022.
Informing about the earthquake, the NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred on February 05, 2022, at 03:15 am IST on latitude 31.14, longitude 78.06 with a depth of 10 km and located 58km Northwest of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.”
However, no damage or casualty was reported so far.
