Earthquake: Midnight tremors jolt Leh, Myanmar
New Delhi: The Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh experienced an earthquake tremor measuring 3.8 intensity on the Richer scale early on Friday.
Although intensity was low, the tremors panicked the people who rushed out of their homes.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), “An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale occurred on Friday at 12:30 am IST. The epicenter was at Latitude 34.95 and Longitude 79.61, located 260 ms East-Northeast of Leh.”
Meanwhile, the Monywa district in Myanmar also experienced strong tremors. “An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 at 11:58 pm IST on Latitude 22.5, Longitude 94.60 and with a depth of 90 km, originated from 144 km West-Northwest, in Myanmar,” the NCS reported.
There are no reports of any damage to life or property in Leh or Myanmar so far.
