Dialogue, diplomacy & cooperation more significant in era of world challenges, says LS Speaker at BRICS

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has emphasised the growing role of BRICS in shaping global developments, strengthening parliamentary cooperation and addressing emerging international challenges. Addressing the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that BRICS countries represent nearly half of the world’s population, and the forum’s capacity to influence global developments and international agreements is growing rapidly. He stressed that the world today is facing many challenges, including regional conflicts, wars, economic instability, trade tensions, terrorism and climate change and said that dialogue, diplomacy and mutual cooperation have become more significant. Describing India as the Mother of Democracy, he highlighted that India’s democratic strength lies in dialogue, diversity of opinions and mutual respect, even amid agreement and disagreement.

The Lok Sabha Speaker called for building stronger parliamentary institutions to ensure legislative continuity, accountability and democratic oversight amid evolving global challenges. He underlined that the aspirations of BRICS countries must not remain confined to deliberations but must translate into concrete policies and practical cooperation. Further, Mr Birla added that Parliamentary understanding can play a special role in strengthening mutual trust, reducing international tensions and finding peaceful solutions to global challenges.
