Depression to move towards East Rajasthan: IMD

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) made a forecast regarding the movement of the Depression on Monday, August 22, 2022. The department is constantly monitoring the movement of the depression and the meteorological changes and wind pressure systems surrounding it.

According to fresh developments, the deep depression over Jharkhand has moved over Northeaster Madhya Pradesh and the adjoining Southern Uttar Pradesh region as of Monday, August 22, 2022. The depression is expected to further penetrate the Indian subcontinent and move towards eastern Rajasthan.

The department also predicted that the depression will weaken into a well-marked low pressure area by Tuesday, August 23, 2022. The IMD took to Twitter and shared several maps and aerial photographs that track the movement of the depression.

“Depression over Northeast MP and adjoining south UP near 24.3°N/78.4°E, about 60 km North-Northwest of Sagar (Madhya Pradesh) at 0830 hrs IST of today. To move West-Northwestwards across northwest MP towards East Rajasthan and weaken into a WML Pressure Area by tomorrow morning,” the IMD informed.

The department even shared spatial rainfall distribution maps that indicated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Rajasthan and adjoining regions of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat for Monday and Tuesday.

Sharing information about the Depression, IMD had shared earlier, “Depression over Central parts Madhya Pradesh and adjoining South Uttar Pradesh near latitude 24.4°N and longitude 78.8°E, about 60 km North of Sagar (Madhya Pradesh).To move West-Northwestwards across Northwest MP and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area next 12 hrs.”

The depression originated in the Bay of Bengal on August 19, 2022. Informing about the depression, IMD had said, “Depression over Northwest and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered about 200 km east-southeast of Balasore and 130 km east-southeast of Digha at 1130 IST of today. To cross the coast between Balasore and Sagar Islands by today evening.”
