Coronavirus: CM Kejriwal appeals people to avoid crowds and celebrate Holi with family
New Delhi: Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday evening appealed to people to avoid the crowd on Holi and celebrate the festival of colors with family. “Amid rising coronavirus cases in the country, I am not going to attend any public holi programs,” CM Kejriwal said.
According to the official data the national capital Delhi recorded 1,558 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday which is the highest since December 15.
“Corona cases have increased in the last few days, in view of this, I am not attending Holi programs being organized in public this time. Appeal to all of you to just celebrate Holi with your family and avoid crowds, follow the rules of Corona prevention,” Kejriwal tweeted
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday had already ordered that “there will be no public celebrations in the national capital during upcoming festivals such as Holi and Navaratri.”
“The government has set up several teams to ensure that people adhere to its directions on Holi. District magistrates and police have created district-wise teams. Legal action would be taken against violators,” Health Minister Satyendar Jain had said.
Coronavirus cases are steadily increasing in several states of India and Maharashtra is at the top of the list.
Telangana’s director of public health, Dr. G Srinivasa Rao urged the people to follow all precautions while celebrating the festival of Holi amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state.
“With the second wave of COVID-19 making its presence felt across India, Rao said it was best for people to avoid playing Holi this year,” Rao added.
