Britain on a path of Canada, Going to end Afghanistan Evacuation in next few hours
New Delhi: The Government of Britain on Friday announced that they are planning to complete its evacuation out of Afghanistan in the next few hours. “We will process those people that we have brought with us, the 1000 people approximately inside the airfield now,” British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told the media.
Canadian general on Thursday said that Canada has ended evacuations from Kabul’s airport.
British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that the UK had closed the Baron Hotel at 0330 GMT, where those wanting to fly to Britain had gathered.
It also closed the processing center for asylum seekers and shut Abbey Gate, one of the points of access to Kabul airport and one of the areas targeted in the twin suicide bombings on Thursday.
On the evacuation, Wallace informed the media that “Nearly 14,000 British citizens and Afghans had been rescued as part of the UK evacuations since mid-August and the sad fact is not every single one will get out. We will seek a way to continue to find a few people in the crowd, where we can, but overall the main processing has now closed and we have a matter of hours.”
Twin suicide bombs ripped through crowds outside Kabul airport on Thursday, killing at least 85 people including 13 US troops, and deepening panic in the final days of an already frenzied evacuation effort from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Canadian commanding officer – General Wayne Eyre, the country’s acting chief of Defence Staff, said all the other countries have to leave the airport before the Americans can wrap up their mission. Canadian military flights evacuated about 3,700 people.
Thousands of Afghan people including Afghan Sikhs and Hindus want to settle in the UK, the US, and Canada as they think that it’s a good chance to settle in these countries. Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are not taking the Indian flights, because they don’t want to come to India, but they want to settle down in the US or Canada.
