“BrahMos at the forefront of India’s military exports”: CEO Jaitirtha Joshi

New Delhi: BrahMos is no longer just a missile, but a symbol of strength, precision and pride of a confident and self-reliant India. During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army deployed this weapon system for the first time in active combat and proved its capability by striking important targets including major Pakistani airbases like Noor Khan. Dr. Jaitirtha Joshi, MD and CEO, BrahMos Aerospace, said that BrahMos is at the forefront of India’s military exports.

BrahMos Success in Defence Exports

India’s defence exports have reached Rs 38,400 crore with an impressive annual growth of 62.7 per cent. The BrahMos system is playing an important role in this. “The success story of BrahMos in terms of exports started even before the combat test of this weapon in 2025. In 2022 we received our first historic export order. That multi-million dollar deal raised India’s defence export hopes at the global level. He said that after the first export deal with the Philippines, deals have been signed with two more countries of Southeast Asia this year. With orders and deliveries to the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam, BrahMos’ exports will exceed $600 million.

Emphasis on Strengthening Supply Chains

BrahMos is further strengthening the supply chain to meet the growing demand. Dr. Joshi said that all the production units of Hyderabad, Nagpur, Pilani and Lucknow are working at full speed. He said that there is a plan to develop 45 sources for each system and sub-system from the earlier 1-2 industry partners. This will increase competition in both quality and price.

The future of BrahMos-NG and the long range

The most important development will be BrahMos-NG (Next Generation). It is a smaller, lighter and more stealthy supersonic cruise missile, developed jointly by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Machnostroyenia. This will increase India’s air-launched strike capability. “We hope to have the first prototype ready by 2027 or 2028. This new system will have more indigenous technology and advanced materials, so R&D work will have to be done on a large scale. ”

BrahMos Aerospace is also working on a strike variant with a range of 1,500 km. The missile has proved its long-range capability during test firings from land, sea and air and has crossed the initial radius of 290 km. The 1,500-kilometre range is currently at the conceptual stage.

New Contract for Navy

On October 6, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace to procure BrahMos fire control systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships. The project will have at least 68% indigenous content and will have active participation of various Indian industries including MSMEs. Dr Joshi said that after Operation Sindoor, BrahMos has proved that it is a highly dangerous and effective system for today’s difficult, multi-domain and high-intensity warfare.
