New Delhi: The latest data released by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Friday said that 45 journalists were killed in the year 2021, and this is the lowest figure since 1995.
The Brussels-based IFJ said that this decrease is welcome news, and it is a small comfort in the face of continued violence.
According to the report, nine journalists were killed in Afghanistan – Which is the highest in comparison to other nations. Mexico recorded the death of eight journalists. Four and Three registered in India and Pakistan a respectively.
The report further added that the risk associated with armed conflict has reduced in recent years because only a few journalists were able to report on the ground.
IFJ Secretary-General Anthony Bellenger emphasized his organization’s support for the UN convention for the protection of Journalists to “ensure accountability for journalists’ killings.”
However, there are many countries – Which are very developed, But there is no freedom to press like China. On the other side, there are countries like Oman, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Mexico – Where doing journalism is not easy.
A few days back – The Afghan Independent Journalists Association (AIJA) showed a radical change in the Afghan media landscape since the Taliban took authority in hands in Afghanistan.
Around 6400 journalists have lost their jobs in Afghanistan since the Taliban have takeover the country, says the nonprofit organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Over 80 percent of women journalists have lost their jobs due to the strict actions of the Taliban against women development.
