Assam flood: 6.6 Lakh People in 27 Districts Affected, Nine dead
Dispur: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Wednesday said that the number of affected increased to 6.62 lakh in 27 districts.
A government statement said three more people died due to the calamity, taking the total to nine. Several parts of Assam are battered by heavy showers, flooding, and landslides, with road and rail links, cut off from the mainland of the state.
At present, 1,413 villages are underwater, and Nagaon is the worst-hit district where 2.88 lakh people are reeling under the calamity, ASDMA said.
Rail and road links to Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district were snapped after heavy landslides in Assam and neighboring states of Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur. “Roads from Itanagar to Gohpur in Assam and to Ziro in Lower Subansiri district via Potin were blocked due to mud slips. Landslides were also reported from Karsingsa block point along the Itanagar-Banderdewa NH-415, Itanagar Gompa, and RWD Colony here,” officials said.
According to the media report, Major damage has been observed in Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Kamrup Metropolitan, Nalbari, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and areas.
The local administrations have set up 248 relief camps and distribution centers in 14 districts to help the flood-affected people.
