SAARC Diary: Harsh Shringla on Two-Day Visit to Nepal

NEW DELHI, Nov 26: The Indian Foreign Affairs Secretary Harsh V Shringla was received by his Nepalese counterpart Bharat Raj Paudyal at the airport when he arrived on a two-day visit to Nepal on Thursday.

During a meeting with Pradeep Gyawali, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, both addressed all aspects of bilateral relations and supported the progress made on a variety of bilateral programmes and projects. It was, decided that additional steps should be taken to advance cooperation. During the discussion, Shringla stated, Government of India is continuing its support for the treatment of Covid-19 infected people in Nepal and handed over 2000 vials of Remdesivir.

After the meeting, Shringla said, “I have just had a very fruitful meeting with Foreign Minister. The Covid-19 Pandemic has triggered the most significant global disturbance since the Second World War.”

He highlighted the need for stronger international cooperation. “As a good friend of Nepal, we are pleased to provide relevant assistance of Covid-19 to Nepal. We have also helped Nepalese civilians come home from other countries. I have communicated to the Foreign Minister that India will continue to offer assistance to Nepal as needed. India, as the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines, is on the advance stages and would give priority to the requirements of Nepal. As we continue to resolve the destructive effects of Covid-19, India and Nepal need to work ever more together to better the lives of the people of our countries.”

After meeting the Foreign Secretary Paudyal, The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu in a series of tweet stated, “FS@harshvshringla had a productive meeting with @PaudyalBR during which they took stock of bilateral cooperation and discussed issues of mutual interest.” It said, “Both sides appreciated the progress made on the numerous bilateral initiatives, and projects. It was agreed, to take further steps to advance cooperation.”
