India, Liechtenstein explore ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology & innovation; PM Modi holds talks with Hereditary Prince Alois

New Delhi [india]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a bilateral meeting with the Acting Head of State of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Hereditary Prince Alois, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Both the leaders discussed cooperation in various areas, including trade and investment, science, technology and innovation and people-to-people exchanges. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments.

Prince Alois was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him. In a media statement, Prince Alois said that the visit bears testimony to the importance that Liechtenstein attaches to the relationship with India. He said that the conclusion of the trade and economic partnership agreement, TEPA, with India, which entered into force a year ago, marked a significant milestone in this regard. He further said that Liechtenstein is determined to build on this momentum and strengthen ties with India even further. Prince Alois also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the invitation.

Prince Alois and his spouse, Princess Sophie, also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.

He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening, who will also host an official banquet in the honour of the visiting dignitary.

The acting Head of State of the Principality of Liechtenstein arrived in New Delhi yesterday from Vadodara. Union Minister Jayant Singh received him at the airport. He was accompanied by his spouse, Princess Sophie and a high-level official, as well as a business delegation comprising top industry leaders.

This is the second visit of Prince Alois to India in 2026. He earlier visited New Delhi in February this year to attend the AI Impact Summit. He had previously visited India in 2010 and 2018.

Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is expected to provide further impetus to the growing engagement between India and Liechtenstein, particularly since operationalization of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement last year. The visit will provide an opportunity to further deepen the friendly ties between India and Liechtenstein and build partnerships in new areas of mutual interest.
