New Delhi: Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi today said that India is the only country which has performed economically well amid the situation of unrest globally.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 7th Agrivoltaics World Conference 2026 in New Delhi, he said that India’s non-fossil fuel-based installed power capacity had reached 308 gigawatts, with around 100 gigawatts added in less than two-and-a-half years.
Talking about the Conference, the Minister said that Agrivoltaics is a transformative opportunity to advance farmers’ welfare while accelerating India’s Clean Energy transition. He highlighted that the 7th edition of this conference has become the largest Agrivoltaics World Conference.
Mr Joshi added that the Government plans to launch one of the world’s largest agrivoltaic programmes under the next phase of PM-KUSUM. He informed that under PM-KUSUM, 25 lakh farmers have benefited, saving 800 million liters of diesel. He emphasized that the theme of the conference, which is Powering the Global South, reflects India’s aspirations and the future it envisions for the developing countries.
The Minister said agrivoltaics offers an effective solution by enabling agricultural activities and solar power generation to coexist on the same land. He emphasized that agrivoltaics could help strike a balance between the country’s energy requirements and agricultural needs.
