New Delhi: A US fighter jet, the F-35, has crashed near the Lemoore Naval Air Station, located around 40 miles (64 kilometres) southwest of the city of Fresno in central California; however, the pilot successfully managed to eject and has been airlifted to the hospital, according to the statement issued by the press navy officer.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 (local time), is under investigation, the statement said.
Visuals captured from the spot show thick plumes of rising smoke.
The aircraft was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron VF-125, known as the “Rough Raiders”. VF-125 is a Fleet Replacement Squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrews. Reported the US Navy.
