Grace and Glamour: Rukinder Kumar’s Highlights from Bangalore Times Fashion Week
We caught up with Rukinder Kumar amidst the excitement of this year’s Bangalore Times Fashion Week held on Sunday, the 23rd of June. Rukinder Kumar was among the designers who showcased their excellence in style on the runway, at an event attended by industry big-wigs, celebrities, stylists, influencers, and socialites.
Rukinder Kumar showcased two of her collections on the ramp—the Cocktail Party Edit, made for signature evenings under the stars, and a never-before-seen celebratory range called ‘Glisten’ inspired by rosy hues of champagne. Both collections were a dazzling highlight of the evening—further solidifying the Bangalore-based designer’s status as a tour de force keeping the Indian fashion scene afresh.
We asked Rukinder Kumar about how the Cocktail Party Edit came to be one of her choices for the event, to which she replied, “I wanted to showcase the glamorous side of my label, and it doesn’t get any more glam than what’s in the cocktail collection. I designed it as a meld of classic grace and contemporary flair, as a ticket to nights of laughter and luminescence.”
Rukinder Kumar explains, “Each piece in the collection is more than just attire—it marks the beginning of an incredible story.” The cocktail dresses in this collection are a versatile tapestry showcasing Rukinder’s ingenious renditions of the saree, gown, and skirt. The Ivory Cascade Saree was a standout, as the model carried it with utmost grace down the runway. Its luxurious frills are beautifully complemented by a corset blouse adorned with stone embroidery, seamlessly blending tradition with modernity.
The dance between tradition and modernity is a theme across Rukinder Kumar’s clothing. In her own words, she describes it as “…an aspiration that enriches my designs under the Rukinder Kumar label.”
Glisten, much like the cocktail party outfits collection, is celebratory, and yet stands on its own legs, as a thoroughly distinct chapter in Rukinder Kumar’s oeuvre, with her hallmark signs of ingenuity at full display.
The designer described her new collection as “…not just another collection for celebrations, it’s what I have to add to the global narrative celebrating diversity. That is why the warm and rosy tones of champagne are the underlying inspiration here. Champagne is a symbol of celebration across the world, enjoyed by everyone—age no bar, color no bar. And I have done my best to translate this universal symbol into this edit.”
Rukinder Kumar’s latest work comes alive through its ethereal embroidery, angelic ombre hues, and premium fabric. The unveiling of the new collection dresses by Rukinder Kumar upon the ramp was a refreshing spectacle met with unanimous praise, as the designer graced the ramp to soak in the energetic atmosphere.
Rukinder Kumar celebrates the richness of tradition with a global appeal. The designer dresses for women’s collections include festive wear, engagement party dresses, dresses for a wedding party and ceremonies, and cocktail dresses, in short, styles that enhance poise and offer elegance for any occasion.
When we asked Rukinder Kumar about what’s more in store at Rukinder Kumar Label, she said, “Oh! There’s plenty more. In fact, I’ve recently launched another label under the name of Fawn24. It’s very Western, stylish, and aspires to add a little more flavor to our wardrobes.”
