Cricket: Six Indian -origin cricketers who played for other countries
New Delhi, Feb19: At least six Indian-origin cricketers are playing for other countries.
They are:
- Stuart Clark: the son of Anglo-Indian parents, his mother is from Kolar Gold Field and his father is from Chennai. Stuart Rupert Clark chose to play for the Australian national team. He has played 24 tests and 39 ODIs for the Australia national team.
- Nasser Hussain: This former England captain was born in Madras (currently Chennai). Playing for England, he helped it win four consecutive Test series victories and rise to third in the Test rankings. Nasser Hussain is seen as one of England’s ablest captains.
- Ravi Bopara: An England cricket star, Ravi Bopara was born into a Sikh family of Indian -origin in London. Playing for England in 120 ODIs, he scored 2.695 runs and scalped 40 wickets. He also played 13 Tests for England and scored 575 runs.
- Hashim Amla: Hashim his grandfather had migrated from Surat, India, to South Africa in 1927. He became the captain of the South African national team and achieved the distinction of being the fastest-ever cricketer to score 3000,4000,6000 and 7000 ODI runs and the second fastest to reach 5000 runs. He also became the fastest cricketer to reach 10 ODI centuries.
- Ashish Bagai: A former Canadian cricketer, he was born in New Delhi and moved to Canada at the age of 11. He played 59 ODI matches scoring 1,922 runs. Ashish also captained the Canadian team during the 2011 cricket World Cup; and,
- Jeetan Patel: Born in Wellington to Indian parents, he played for New Zealand in 79 test matches and scored 6,227 runs with 15 centuries and 28 fifties.
