NEW DELHI, Dec 29: In the wake of the BJP accusing the Samajwadi Party of trying to inflame communal riots during the prime minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Kanpur on Tuesday, five SP workers were expelled from the party on Wednesday after a video showing them creating ruckus wet viral on the social media.

The BJP spokesman Sambit Patra had levelled the charges against the SP showing the video. Five SP workers were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police for allegedly conspiring to create a ruckus during Modi’s visit. An FIR was registered against the SP workers who went on a rampage following the departure of Modi’s convoy. In the video, the five accused can be seen burning an effigy and shouting slogans against Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. They then pelt stones at the vehicle of a BJP supporter.

After their arrest on Wednesday, the Samajwadi Party announced that it has decided to expel the five workers as instructed by the party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav.
In a statement, the Samajwadi Party said Akhilesh Yadav has directed party leaders to expel Sachin, Ankur, Ankesh, Sukant, and Sushil for the incident that took place in Kanpur on December 28. Kanpur police have booked the five accused under Sections 147, 148, 153 A, 336, 435, 34, and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
PM Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the nine-kilometre long completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project and addressed the convocation at IIT-Kanpur before leaving for Lucknow by road.
