Cyclone Gulab: Landfall complete, says IMD
New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday confirmed the completion of the landfall process of Cyclone Gulab on the east coast of the country.
“The landfall process has been completed. However, the system maintains its cyclonic storm intensity and is likely to move nearly westwards and weaken into a deep depression during the next few hours,” it said.
On Sunday, the cyclone had weakened into a deep depression over Northern Andhra Pradesh and the adjourning Southern Odisha while moving inland westwards. On Monday, the depression hovered around 110km South-Southeast of Jagdalpur district of Chhattisgarh and 140km West-NorthWest of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The storm is likely to move further inland during the next 12 hours, causing light and modern rain intensity to heavy, very heavy, and extremely heavy showers in isolated regions over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Southern Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Vidharbha, Odisha, and Rayalaseema regions.
Meanwhile, the weak cyclonic remnants will move further westwards from the Bay of Bengal leading to heavy rainfall to Central India, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra within the next 2-3 days.
