New Delhi, March 28: The ministry of food processing industry (MoFPI) is going to implement the central scheme for the formalisation of micro food processing enterprises (PMFME) under the initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat Tag Vocal for Local.
Prahlad Singh Patel, the minister of states for the food processing industries, revealed this information in a written reply in Loksabha.
As per his given information, to give the small food business plans an opportunity and enough scale in terms of financial, technical, and other business support, a decision has been taken.
The PMFME scheme was originally designed in such a way that through it we could address the challenges faced by the micro enterprises. The motive of this scheme is to enhance the competitiveness among new and existing individual food processing microbusinesses and to formalise this sector.
The PMFME scheme will be in force for a period of five years, from 2020–21 to 2024–25, with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore. Till now, 27003 loans have been sanctioned in the country, out of which 5864 were only sectioned in Maharashtra, the highest among all 37 states.
Under the PMFME scheme, assistance will be given to microbusinesses under the categories of individual category micro enterprises, SHGs for seed capital, common infrastructure, branding and marketing, and capacity building.
In which capacity building is a critical component of this scheme and the main focus areas under it are entrepreneurship development, compliance with the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, and general hygiene, for which the district resource persons (DRP) have been appointed,
With this scheme, microfood processing businesses will get the opportunity to compete, and also with this, the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative (vocal for local) for local businesses will be supported too.
