New Delhi: The United States (US) is planning to blacklist a number of Chinese companies and firms including Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation(SMIC), report says.

According to a media report – President Trump is going to add at least 80 companies and their affiliates to the Commerce Department’s Entity List.

Companies including Huawei and SMIC have been caught in the middle of worsening tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

Trump had been widely expected to level more sanctions against China’s national champions before Joe Biden formally took office.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin in Beijing on Friday said that “This will be another example of how the US is using its national power to crack down on Chinese companies and we urge the US to stop its wrongful activities cracking down on foreign companies.”

A person with knowledge of the matter said that “China is planning to provide broad support for so-called third-generation semiconductors in its next five-year plan to increase domestic self-sufficiency in chip manufacturing.

The US and China are already sharing different views on many international issues and subjects which includes Trade-war, Coronavirus, Pacific sea, South China Sea and others.

Some Chinese political experts believe that disputes between China and the US will reduce once Biden takes office, American political experts believe that Biden will look into the matter first and then the US will decide about the next step.
