Kanpur: A Muslim boy from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh – was allegedly killed by extremists for chanting Jai Shri Ram and celebrating the victory of BJP in the state.
The victim identified as ‘Babar’ was allegedly killed by members of his community for celebrating BJP’s win. SDM Varun Kumar Pandey told media that the victim had complained about death threats, but no action was taken then.
“The FIR has been registered, and we are investigating the matter,” he said and assured that the accused will be arrested and strict action will be taken against the guilty.
According to the family, Babar was returning from his shop on March 20 when he chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and was attacked by some local people. Members of our community had warned him against campaigning for BJP. To save himself, Babar climbed on the roof but when the accused reached there to catch him, and then Babar jumped and sustained injuries.
Babar’s family refused to perform the last rites unless those responsible for the youth’s death are punished.
The local MLA Panchanand Pathak also met the family and convinced them to perform the last rites. On the complaint of the family members, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections.
The BJP swept the Uttar Pradesh polls, winning on 255 of the 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh with Yogi Adityanath becoming the Chief Minister of the state for a second consecutive term.
