Tennis: Two-time Wimbledon winner Rafael Nadal prioritizes Paris Olympics over Wimbledon in July
New Delhi, May 28: Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal said it is ‘not a good idea’ to compete at this year’s Wimbledon over the Paris Olympics, both starting in July, the media reported on Monday.
After losing in the French Open first round on Monday, he said competing at the 2024 Olympic Games is now his main purpose.
“For me now it looks difficult to make a transition to the grass, then having the Olympics again on clay,” Nadal told reporters on Monday.
The 2024 Wimbledon matches will start on July 1, while the Olympic tennis tournament will be held from July 27.
In his career, Nadal has won the singles at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. He is now set to represent Spain at the Paris Games with his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz.
Since Nadal suffered a hip injury at the 2023 Australian Open, he has only competed in five tournaments.
