Tennis: Rafael Nadal loses to Lehecka on his final appearance at the Madrid Open
New Delhi, May 1: Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal waved an emotional farewell to the Madrid Open tournament after losing to Czech player Jiri Lehecka on Tuesday, the media reported. Nadal, 37, lost 7-5,6-4 to Lehecka.
“It was a very special week for me, very positive and very emotional. I had the chance to play one more time here on this court, All I can say is thank you to everyone that has helped my career.” Nadal said.
He said 2024 is the last year of his tennis career. To honor Nadal, the Madrid Open celebrated his past success at the tournament in a video tribute. He was also awarded a special trophy by the tournament organizers.
The 22-Grand Slam winner is set to compete at the 2024 French Open, which is starting on May 26.
