Tennis: Pliskova loses to Haddad Maia 0-2 at the Indian Wells 2021
New Delhi: Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova lost straight sets to Brazilian unseeded player Beatriz Haddad Maia 3-6, 5-7 in the Women’s Singles 3rd round match of the BNP Paribas Open 2021 at the Indian Wells, California, on Tuesday.
Haddad Maia took a 3-1 lead in the opening set, despite windy conditions at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Court.
Though World No. 3 tried making a comeback, the weather visibly affected Pliskova’s game as she lost the set to Haddad Maia by 3-6.
However, Pliskova aggressively charged at Haddad Maia and brought the match to a 5-5 tie in the final set. She tactfully defended serves and aces before Haddad Maia broke the deuce tie with 2 points to win the match by 7-5.
Haddad Maia will face Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit on Wednesday. The 18th seeded Kontaveit has won 8 straight matches so far.
