Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz defeated Rafael Nadal at the inaugural Netflix Slam
New Delhi, Mar 4: Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated his compatriot Rafael Nadal at the inaugural Netflix Slam held in Las Vegas on Sunday. Alcaraz beat Nadal 3-6,6-4,14-12. Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, has been outside the court for a year due to a hip injury that also made him miss the Australian Open. His competitor Alcaraz was also testing his fitness level after an injury to his right ankle during the Rio Open tournament.
Nadal, 37, said he never imagined his farewell from tennis, adding he still wants to compete and enjoy the game.
“How can I imagine my farewell? I don’t imagine it because when you start to imagine something it means that you are closer to it,” he said.
Alcaraz, who won the game, praised his fellow tennis legend: “It has been incredible. Playing against Rafal is special for me.” “He never gives up on any ball and runs around every corner of the court. I had a few match points before I got it.”
Both Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are set to compete in the BNP Paribas tournament. Nadal is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time with 22 Grand Slam titles, whereas Carlos Alcaraz, 20, is a young star in the game with two Grand Slam titles.
