Temblor: Sixth mild tremor after October 1 felt in N Karnataka
New Delhi: The sixth mild tremor after October 1, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, shook parts of North Karnataka on Wednesday, but there were no reports of any harm to the life and property of the people.
The Indian Centre for Seismology (ICS) tweeted the seismograph on the micro-blogging site with the caption, “An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred on October 20, 2021, around 10:28 am IST on a latitude of 16.99 and longitude 75.60 with a depth of 22kms. The epicentre of the earthquake is located in Vijaypura, Karnataka.”
The mild tremor originated near Vijaypura and was felt in the nearby Bidar and Kalaburagi districts. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) said in an official statement, “The epicentre of the earthquake was at 2.9 km North-West of Dhanargi in Vijayapura District.”
“The intensity observed is low, and therefore, the tremors can be felt up to a maximum radial distance of 12 to 15 km. These types of earthquakes are categorized as mild and do not create any harm to the local community, although slight shocks may be observed locally,” the KSNDMC added.
The State Disaster Monitoring centre has sent for a team of geologists to study the phenomenon. No casualties or loss of property reported was so far.
