Sri Lankan Navy Arrests 43 Tamil Fishermen, Six boats seized
Kochi: A Fisheries Department official on Sunday late night informed that the Sri Lankan Navy has arrested around 43 fishermen from Tamil Nadu when they were fishing in the sea.
Fishermen departed on December 18 from Rameswaram in over 500 boats and were fishing off Katchatheevu island when 43 of them were arrested and six boats seized.
According to fishermen association leader and authorities, arrested fishermen were taken to Kangesanthurai camp. “We demanding their immediate release, or else we would stage a protest on Monday and announced an ‘indefinite strike’ as well.”
Ramanathapuram MP, K Navas Kani spoke to union ministers and urged them to take immediate steps for the release of the fishermen and their boats.
