Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024,Team Vormir from Pune presents their innovative project, “Jan Ganga”
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, organized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is one of India’s premier innovation platforms. Hosted at New Horizon College, Bangalore, it challenges participants to develop impactful solutions to real-world problems posed by government bodies and industries.
At this event, Team Vormir from Pune presented their innovative project, “Jana Ganga,” an AI-enabled decision support system designed to predict the Ganga River’s water quality up to five days in advance. The software utilizes satellite data, IoT sensors, and advanced machine learning models to provide real-time insights into key water quality parameters such as the Water Quality Index (WQI), nitrate levels, and biological oxygen demand (BOD). Equipped with a real-time alert system, the project aids in proactive pollution management and aligns with the goals of the Namami Gange program.
The project team was led by Pratik Raut, with members Sejal Parate, Ritika Chatterjee, Yashraj Aware, Sahil Mandanvkar, and Siddhesh Khairnar contributing their expertise. Peeyush Gupta, a representative from the Ministry of Jal Shakti, commended the project, describing it as a “futuristic and effective” solution. He praised the robust real-time forecasting models and their potential to revolutionize water quality management in the Ganga River.
