New Delhi, July 20: Ex-England rugby captain Sam Tomkins has reversed his retirement to play for Catalans Dragons for the rest of the 2024 season, the media reported on Saturday.

Catalans head coach Steve McNamara said convincing Tomkins to come back was a ‘no-brainer’ for the club but he finally re-registered.

“Witnessing him both physically and mentally fit, it was a no-brainer for us to register him. We are adding a great player and true leader to our team for the rest of 2024.”

Tomkins,35, played for Catalans Dragons for four years. He retired from rugby in 2023 after suffering from a serious knee injury.

He never left the club completely because he remained at the Catalans Dragons Club in off-field duties. Tomkins will play his first come-back game on Saturday, July 27, when Catalans will face Hull FC.

Rugby legend Tomkins had a 15-year career before retiring last year. He played in three Super League Grand Final wins -in 2010,2013 and 2018.

With England’s national rugby union team, he played in the 2013 and 2021 World Cup semi-finals, but he never won the tournament. Individually, he won Super League’s Man of Steel award twice -in 2012 and 2021.
