Operation Surakshit Cyberspace: Gujarat Police Drive to Protect Women and Children Online

GANDHINAGAR, July 2: With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated and widespread, Gujarat Police has launched “Operation Surakshit Cyberspace,” a month-long statewide cyber safety awareness campaign dedicated to protecting women and children in the digital space.
The campaign, running from July 1 to July 28, aims to create a safer digital environment through intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and public awareness to protect citizens, especially women and children, from cyber threats.
Additional Director General of Police (CID Crime–Women Cell) Ajay Choudhary said the campaign is focused on safeguarding women and children, who are increasingly becoming more vulnerable to cybercrimes such as online exploitation, cyberstalking, financial fraud, identity theft, and other digital threats.
“The objective of this operation is to public safety in the digital space, with a special focus on protecting women and children from the growing threat of cybercrime. Under the guidance of DGP G.S. Malik, Operation Surakshit Cyberspace seeks to proactively identify individuals at risk, prevent financial fraud, strengthen cyber awareness, and ensure swift police intervention through coordinated efforts across the state,” Choudhary said.
As part of Operation Surakshit Cyberspace, Gujarat Police will identify potential cybercrime victims, verify cyber alerts, provide counselling, facilitate reporting through the National Cyber Helpline, and ensure timely action on cyber offences. The campaign also focuses on proactive victim outreach, field-level verification, and the use of cyber intelligence to detect threats early and prevent cybercrimes before they occur.
Gujarat Police will collaborate with banks, telecom service providers, educational institutions, RWAs, NGOs, and community leaders to promote cyber awareness and encourage safe digital practices across the state.
The campaign will be implemented at the grassroots level by SHE Teams and dedicated cybercrime police stations through awareness drives, community outreach, and targeted interventions, helping women, children, parents, students, and educational institutions how to recognise cyber threats and adopt safer digital practices.
The campaign is guided by the slogan, “Safety through Awareness, Investigation through Technology, Action through Law, and a Safer Gujarat through Public Participation.”
Gujarat Police aim to educating 25 lakh citizens on cyber safety, encouraging 20 lakh students to take the Cyber Safety Pledge, conducting awareness programmes in 10,000 schools and 1,500 colleges, and reaching one lakh adolescent girls with sessions on cyberstalking, online safety, digital privacy, and responsible internet use.
The campaign also includes 5,000 parental awareness sessions to help families protect children from online risks and aims to ensure preliminary police action within 24 hours of every cyber complaint involving women and children.
With Operation Surakshit Cyberspace, Gujarat Police has taken a proactive step towards strengthening cyber safety through awareness, technology, and community participation. The initiative reflects the force’s commitment to protecting women and children while fostering a safer and more secure digital environment across the state.
