Ahmedabad: It may appear that there is no better time to add a new furry member to the family as winter approaches and the evenings begin to draw in. As appealing as it may be to turn to a new pet for warmth, cosiness, and support, there are some factors to consider before getting a dog.
Getting a puppy is cute, but it’s also a huge challenge, and the last thing anyone wants to do is acquire a dog and then regret it. Here are a few things that one should be mindful of-
- Puppy depression is very common
It’s typical to anticipate cuddling on the sofa with a dog, but dogs aren’t as eager to do so. They take time, enable the puppy to mature, and require patience throughout training.
- Meal Planning is important
It’s difficult to feed a young puppy. One will have to feed them up to four times a day, especially if they’re as large as a bear. Allowing them to devour the food by spilling it all on the ground will lead to obesity.
- Frequent walks are necessary
Walking a puppy is a difficult task, but it is essential. People usually obtain their pups at the age of ten weeks, which implies a three-to-four-hour walk is required. Also, please don’t let other dogs play with puppies since their leashes can become twisted and someone may be bitten, which is bad for a well-behaved puppy.
- Dogs get Dirty
When it comes to dogs, bathing is a personality trait, since some dislike it while others enjoy it. While putting human items on them is a no-no, whether it’s a human shampoo or a human hairdryer, it’s also a no-no. There are special dog dryers on the market. It’s not too hot for the dog and effectively blows the water off of him, but you’ll have to brush him and cut his toenails, which takes time.
- Crate training is a test
Crate training is by far the most successful method for housebreaking one’s dog and preventing them from destroying the house. Dogs are den animals that prefer confined areas, and this is his haven. He is free to sleep or pee there because it is, after all, their house.
- Vet bills might get expensive
The financial battle is also genuine. Aside from pet supplies, one must pay for medical appointments, immunizations, and, if he becomes unwell, the expenses can quickly mount.
Make time for play and connection. One can even play games with their pet. Set up the framework ahead of time if there will be more than one person who will interact with the puppy. When does the puppy eat and go for a walk, and who is responsible for the routine is also a major concern.
Ascertain that all parties agree on the puppy’s travel restrictions. Collaborate to ensure that the training is consistent. If the family has children, make sure they understand how to act around dogs. If there are other pets in the house, make sure they have been properly introduced and are always supervised.
