Karnataka: PM inaugurated Shivamogga Airport, laid foundation stone for many development projects
New Delhi, Feb 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Shivamogga airport and laid a foundation stone for the many development projects in the Karnataka state on Monday.
At the inauguration ceremony, the PM addressed the people of the state, He said that “after a long time the need of the citizens fulfilled today.” As the airport will help to connect with one another, he remarked, “It is not just an airport but a campaign where the dreams of the younger generation can take off.”
Pm said that Karnataka is in the path of progress and this will all be paved by roadways, airways and Iways(digital connectivity), as the airport will give young people hope to perceive their dreams.
He also said that the government is pushing airports into smaller cities, And in the past 9 years, 75 more airports have been added in big and smaller cities, and as per the UDAN scheme for affordable air travel, he shared his vision, quoting, “Even a Hawai Chappal-wearing common man should be able to travel in a Hawai Jahaj.”
After that, the PM laid the foundation stone for various development projects like a water supply project worth Rs. 2500 crore in Shivamogga and Balagavi districts, a railway project, multiple road development projects worth more than Rs. 215 crore, multi-village schemes worth Rs. 950 crore, and 44 smart city projects worth more than Rs. 895 crore in Shivamogga.
Later in the day, PM Narendra Modi held a grand road show in Balagavi, Karnataka, with tight security.
The newly inaugurated airport has been constructed under the central government’s UDAN scheme, situated on 662.38 acres of land, and was built at a cost of around 450 crore, with the capacity to handle 300 travellers every hour, facilitating the long-run route, a terminal building, an ATC tower, a fire station building, a taxiway, a total well-equipped airport.
