Kangana Ranaut unveils First Look from film Emergency
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut took to social media to share her first look from the upcoming Bollywood film, Emergency, on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
The actor took to her Instagram handle and shared the look with a caption that read, “Presenting Emergency First Look! Portraying one of the most powerful and controversial women in the history of the world…Emergency shoot begins.”
The first look poster shows a wrinkled-looking Ranaut draped in a saree with rudraksh beads around her neck. Her short salt-and-pepper hair seem clearly visible as she looks down towards the left, while holding her reading glasses in the hand.
Talking about Emergency as a political drama, Ranaut had said, “It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand the socio-political landscape of current India.”
“Emergency reflects one of the most important periods in Indian political history which changed the way we view power and that’s why I decided to tell this story. Moreover, playing a public figure on screen is always a challenge because one has to get the look, the characteristics and the persona right. I spent a significant amount of time researching the subject and once I felt I had enough ammunition, I commenced the film’s shoot,” Ranaut added.
She also introduced Oscar and BAFTA-winning makeup artist David Malinowski, who helped her transform into her character. She shared a couple of photos where David can be seen discussing her looks with her and helping her with the makeup.
Kangana is donning the director’s hat for Emergency. This will be her second time as a director after helming the 2019 film, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
“I am pleased to wear director’s hat again. After working on Emergency for more than a year, I finally figured no one can direct it better than me. Collaborating with fabulous writer, Ritesh Shah. Even if it means sacrificing on various acting assignments, I am determined to do it. My excitement is high. This is going to be a tremendous journey,” she shared.
