Srinagar: The Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir killed five Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) terrorists in an encounter on Friday late night. An Army Soldier also succumbed to injuries he sustained during the encounter.
After an encounter – Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir confirmed that based on the input received last evening about five terrorists hiding in the Hanjin village of Rajpora, the security forces cordoned off the area.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and J&K Police launched an operation in the village to arrest the terrorists and an encounter broke out soon after. The parents of Amir, a terror associate, were called to appeal to surrender but the effort failed, Vijay Kumar said.

All five LeT terrorists, including a Pakistani terrorist named Rehan, were killed in the encounter. Arms, ammunition, and some documents were recovered from the spot.

According to the official, the slain terrorists were planning an attack at Srinagar-Pulwama National Highway. A few days back J&K Police also arrested three persons based on terror inputs. Two persons were nabbed from Uri while one from the Sopore area. An FIR has been lodged against them and the police are investigating the matter.
