Iran is not exporting Drones to Russia, Says Russia’s deputy UN envoy
New Delhi: Western claims of Iran’s drone exports to Russia are nothing but yet another example of disinformation, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky told reporters.
“We have observed another round of the disinformation campaign by the Western delegations, as they raised in the Council the issue of the UAVs allegedly used by Russia in Ukraine,” the diplomat said after closed UN Security Council consultations on the matter.
“The aim of our Western colleagues is clear: they attempt to hit two targets at once, inventing an artificial pretext to put pressure on Russia and Iran,” he added.
However, a few days back Britain joined France in viewing the Iranian supply of armed drones to Russia for devastating use in Ukraine as a breach of Iran’s obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal.
The drone strikes continued in Ukraine on Monday, killing three more people, according to the mayor of Kyiv.
The United States has also agreed with British and French assessments that Iran supplies drones to Russia and violates a U.N. Security Council resolution that endorsed the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six powers.
Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. Iran denies supplying the drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.
