New Delhi: The Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki volcano in South-Central Indonesia erupted thrice on Friday, spewing a huge column of ash, and prompting authorities to expand the danger zone around the volcano, the media reported.
No further information was available immediately.

The area around volcano, located on the remote island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara Province, has recorded hundreds of tremors in the last seven days.

Due to the fresh eruption, an alert was sounded and several flights cancelled between Bali and Australia. Other international and domestic flights to and from the island were also delayed.

In November 2024, the a major eruption of this volcano killed nine people and injured dozens.

The 1,584-metre (5,197 foot) high mountain has twin volcanos, with Mount Lewotobi Perempuan located in the Flores Timur district.

Indonesia has a population of over 280 million people. Many of them experience frequent seismic activities. The archipelago nation has nearly 120 active volcanos and sits along the Ring of Fire, a horseshoe-shaped series of seismic faultlines encircling the Pacific Basin.
