Hyderabad police arrested one more Chinese national in suspect of involvement Loan apps scam
Hyderabad, December 31: The Hyderabad police on Wednesday arrested one more Chinese national who was operating call centres in India for providing instant loan through applications. Since December 25, two Chinese nationals including a woman were arrested in different cases.
In its statement – police said that “The 27-year-old Chinese national was intercepted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) as he was trying to leave the country. The Chinese national was overall head of operations of loan apps being run by the four companies.”
Instant loan applications provide instant loan to the borrower and then lenders harass the borrowers for repayment. The special investigation team of police had launched the investigation after several cases of harassment were reported in the City.
Police further added that “We have arrested a person from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh also and he played a key role in operation of the call centres.”
The Cyber-crime police department of Hyderabad is already investigating 27 cases which are connected with the issue of unauthorised loan apps and harassment of the borrowers through call centres.
A preliminary investigation into the financial transactions has revealed that close to 1.4 crore transactions worth nearly Rs 21,000 crore have taken place so far, Hyderabad police said.
Bulk of transactions had taken place over the last six months and further investigation is continuing, police said.
A few days back the Hyderabad police had arrested 11 people from Gurgaon, Haryana and in Hyderabad, who were working in this kind of call centres and they were harassing the borrowers.
Earlier Hyderabad police said that “Three people in Hyderabad city had driven to the suicide after taking loans from the unauthorised instant loan applications.”
