Ahmedabad: IIn the view of protection, and rescue – The Gujarat government has sanctioned the procurement of the ROV in the state budget 2022-23. Gujarat Police will be acquiring “underwater remote-operated vehicles (ROV)” for rescue operations and drug and other crime-related searches, in an effort toward police modernization and technology adoption.
Narsimha Komar – Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Planning and Modernisation said that “Equipped with a 4k Ultra HD camera, an underwater ROV can enter 200 meters in the water and can provide information to its base station regarding objects floating or sunk,”
The ROV with batteries that last up to 10 hours, can find bodies or other items lying underwater and also rescue drowning persons and bring them to the water’s surface. The feed sent by the ROV from underwater can be seen on the LED screen by the remote control operator and the team working with him.
Police said the ROV will be used in multiple operations of police and disaster response forces.
“It weighs around 8-10 kilograms and has a 6 to 10 hours long battery backup. The operator of the ROV can use it with a remote and watch the contents live on an LCD screen,” the statement adds.
