Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Votes in Local Body Polls, Urges Citizens to Turn Out
Ahmedabad: Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel cast his vote in Ahmedabad on Sunday as polling for Gujarat’s local body elections got underway, calling on citizens to participate actively and treat voting as both a right and a responsibility.
Speaking to reporters after voting, Patel described the polling day as a “festival of democracy” and encouraged people to make the most of the opportunity. He urged voters to step out despite factors like heat, holidays, or personal engagements such as the ongoing wedding season.
“There may be some impact due to the weather and the holiday, but people will come out to vote,” he said, expressing confidence that turnout would pick up through the day.
The Chief Minister also appealed to voters to support candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party, while reiterating his broader call for maximum participation. A day earlier, he had urged citizens across the state to ensure “100 per cent voting” in the local self-government elections.
Highlighting the role of voting in grassroots governance, Patel said every vote contributes to the development of villages, talukas, districts, and cities, and asked people to motivate family members and neighbours to participate.
Polling is being held across 15 municipal corporations, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot. Elections are also underway in over 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats.
The counting of votes is scheduled for April 28.
