Football: Marta to retire from Brazil’s national team
New Delhi, April 26: Marta Vieira da Silva, 38, announced her retirement from Brazil’s national football team at the end of 2024, the media reported on Friday.
A two-time Olympic silver medallist, she revealed that she is in the last stage of her career. “There’s a moment when we have to understand that the time has come.”
Marta debuted in Brazil’s national team in 2002 and scored 115 goals in 171 appearances. She is currently the all-time top scorer of Brazil in both men’s and women’s football.
Beyond Brazil also, Marta is a tenth all-time top scorer in women’s international football.
With the Brazilian national team, Marta won two silver medals in the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
