New Delhi, July 12: South American football governing body Conmebol has started an investigation into the clash between Uruguay player Darwin Nunez and Colombian fans at the Copa America 2024 in the USA, the media reported on Friday.
The footage published in media shows Nunez fighting with Columbian fans in the stands where his family members were seated.
“The disciplinary committee of Conmebol has opened an investigation to understand the sequence of events and the responsibilities of those involved in the acts of violence that occurred at the end of the match between the national teams of Uruguay and Columbia,” Conmebol said in a statement.
Nunez, 25, has not yet commented on the incident. Columbia won 1-0 against Uruguay to reach the final of the Copa America 2024. In the final match of the tournament, Columbia will face Argentina on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA.
