Education: MP colleges to teach Hindu scriptures from academic year 2021-22
New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh government’s education department has decided to incorporate the teachings of Hindu scriptures and epics Shri Ramcharitmanas and Mahabharata in colleges in accordance with the New Education Policy 2020.
This inclusion will be in effect from the academic year 2021-22.
Interestingly, Saudi Arabia had also included Hindu scriptures in its school curricula recently.
The Hindu epics will be included in the college curriculum with the Applied Philosophy of Shri Ramcharitmanas as an optional subject. The first-year students will study C.Rajagopalachari’s Mahabharata, English, Hindi, Yoga and Meditation, Om Meditation, and chanting of mantras as foundation courses, reports said.
The revised syllabi include chapters on Shri Ramcharitmanas, Spirituality and Religion, the Four Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, an embodiment of Dual Existence, and the difference between the Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas.
Through this, the students will study the qualities of a human personality, obedience, strong character, divinity, and the utmost devotion of Lord Rama towards his father.
Besides, engineering students will learn about the construction of the Ram Setu as an engineering marvel. The colleges will provide 24 optional subjects, including Urdu language and songs.
MP Education Minister Mohan Yadav said, “There is so much to learn from the Shri Ramcharitamanas. These subjects will impart values and help develop the students’ personalities. It will motivate them to live a wholesome, valuable, and respectable life and shape them as good human beings.”
