New Delhi: Romanian tennis player Simona Halep defeated Tunisian player Ons Jabeur straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of Dubai Tennis Championship 2022 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre, Dubai, on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
Halep served first and had an early lead at 2-0, but the eight seeded Jabeur levelled scores 2-2. The former world no.1 re-established her advantage at 4-2. Though the Tunisian gained a point on Halep’s serve at 5-3, Halep swiftly covered the court and aggressively charged at her opponent to win the opening set 6-4.
Jabeur assumed an early control of the second set and quickly progressed to 2-0. However, Halep responded to Jabeur’s aggressive gameplay and drop shot by winning four consecutive games. The Romanian remained consistent and closed the match on a serve within 80 minutes. Halep secured a seat in the semifinals.
Halep will face Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko in the singles semifinals on Friday, February 18, 2022.
