Delhi moving towards ‘herd immunity’ against covid-19: Sero Survey
New Delhi: A latest survey on coronavirus situation in the national capital shows that people of Delhi are moving towards ‘herd immunity’.
A Health Minister of Delhi Satendar Jain on Tuesday cited Sero Survey and said that “About 56 of every 100 people in Delhi have developed antibodies against COVID-19 and the city is moving towards herd immunity when it comes to fighting against COVID-19.
The numbers of cases, fatalities and admissions into the hospitals have also declined significantly over the last few weeks.
Satendar Jain further added that “According to the survey, with about 62.18 per cent, Southwest Delhi district has reported maximum seroprevalence, while North Delhi, with 49.09 per cent, has shown the lowest.”
After two dry runs, the vaccines have been administered to frontline workers and others.
More than 28000 samples were collected during the survey to get the accurate result.
A senior official said that “A new, better technology was used during the survey. Samples were collected from every ward. In all, 28,000 samples were taken.”
Last month, the Central government accorded approval to two COVID-19 vaccines, namely COVAXIN by state-owned Bharat biotech and Covishield by Serum Institute of India.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Tuesday that two high-level multi-disciplinary teams will be sent to Kerala and Maharashtra to collaborate with the state health authorities in coming up with public health measures for Covid-19 management.
The announcement came on the day the total number of active cases in Maharashtra went up to 44,944 with recoveries at 19,32,294 and the death toll at 51,109. In Kerala, 69,456 active cases with 8,59,421 recoveries and 3,760 deaths have been reported so far. These two states alone contribute to almost 70 per cent of active Covid-19 cases in the country.
