New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made it mandatory for visitors from other states to carry their Covid-19 negative RT-PCR reports for entry into the state.

The decision was taken on Sunday in view of the resurgence of infections causing Covid-19.

People coming from states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and other areas with an infection-positive rate of more than 3 percent will have to produce a negative RT-PCR report for entering the borders of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

Visitors inoculated with both the dosages of vaccination will be allowed to enter the state without an RT-PCR report. The rules also apply to people coming through all modes of public and private transportation.

Infection cases are surging again in different parts of India, thus making a negative RT-PCR report from such places mandatory. The report should not be older than 4 days, officials said.

People from such places will experience intensive contact tracing and testing besides undergoing a compulsory antigen test and thermal scanning on their arrival.

An official statement revealed 56 new Covid-19 cases in the state on Sunday, with 6 each from Varanasi and Gautam Buddha Nagar, 5 from Prayagraj, and 4 from Lucknow.
