Covid-19: India Crosses the Mark of Three Lakh, Reports 3.17 lakh cases in 24 hours
New Delhi: India recorded 3,17,532 new Covid-19 cases, 491 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total death toll to 4,87,693, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health on Thursday. The third wave of the pandemic appears to be peaking as the Omicron tally in the country too rose to 9,287 as of Wednesday night, a sharp increase of 3.63 percent since the previous day.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 16.41 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 16.06 percent, according to the ministry. India’s active caseload currently stands at 1,924,051. With 223,990 more patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total recoveries in the countries have risen to 35,807,029.
The Health Ministry also informed that more than 158.96 crores (1,58,96,34,485) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been provided to states and Union Territories so far under the central government’s ‘free of cost’ channel and direct state procurement category.
The third wave of Covid-19 in the country might peak on Sunday as the daily cases will be less than 400,000-mark. According to a study by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, “The daily peak cases are projected to peak on January 23 in India and stay below the 400,000-mark. Metro cities Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata have already peaked.”
