Covid-19: Essar donates oxygen generator plant at Jamjodhpur
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday virtually inaugurated an oxygen generator plant donated by the Essar Foundation, Essar Group’s CSR arm, at Jamjodhpur, to strengthen medical facilities in the state.
During the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in April-May this year, the Essar Group had set up a 100-bed Covid care center at Devbhumi Dwarka.
This oxygen plant will boost the state government’s efforts to be better prepared in case of the onset of a third wave and will support the timely supply of medical oxygen to the people of Jamjodhpur block, according to an Essar statement here.
The plant is a 20NM3 per hour oxygen generator with a buster compressor and has a capacity of 333 liters per minute (LPM) which is enough to service over 24 beds simultaneously. The plant will absorb air from the atmosphere before converting it into medical-grade oxygen.
Additionally, a compressor has been installed beside the plant for filling up medical-standard cylinders. It has the capacity to fill about 80 cylinders in 24 hours. Essar has sourced the components of the plant from various parts of the world, and the entire cost of the plant has been funded by the company under the ‘Essar Cares initiative’.
The plant will meet the needs of the people in case of an emergency and provide them with the necessary relief. Training of the hospital staff on the oxygen plant operations was conducted by the plant supplier’s engineer.
Last year, the Essar Foundation had launched the ‘Essar Cares initiative’ to actively support India’s fight against Covid-19. Over two million meals and 1.55 lakh medical supplies were provided to those in need across the country.
Earlier this year, when the nation was under the grip of the second wave of the virus, Essar, in collaboration with the Khambaliya Civil Hospital, had set up a 100-bed oxygen-equipped Covid Care Centre at Devbhumi Dwarka district in Gujarat.
The facility played a key role in adding necessary medical infrastructure during a critical time and helped many patients recover from the virus.
